WAIS Pair Listed in UCI Road Champs Squad for Switzerland

Cycling Australia has released an extended squad for this month’s UCI Road World Championships in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

AIS-WAIS scholarship holders Travis Meyer and Adam Semple have been included in the U23 men’s squad for the September 23-27 event.

20 year-old Meyer and 19 year-old Semple have both been members of Team-AIS tours in Europe and Asia through 2009 and will be in contention for the five positions for the road race and two for the time trial.

The WAIS athletes have been named in the preliminary squad along with John Anderson, Jack Bobridge, Daniel Braunsteins, Leigh Howard, Johnathon Lovelock, Michael Matthews, Mark O’Brien, Tim Roe and Nicholas Walker.

The elite men’s squad includes some big names with Cadel Evans, Stuart O’Grady, Michael Rogers and Simon Gerrans all listed in the initial squad fighting for the nine road and two time trial positions.

In the women’s elite squad, Olympic rower Amber Halliday is in contention to make her world championship debut for Australia. Australia will send six road and two time trial riders.

The final squad will be announced on September 14.
