WAIS 470 sailing pair, Tessa Parkinson and Elise Rechichi have been named as joint winners of the Female Sailor of the year award at the Australian Yachting Awards in Sydney over the weekend.
Parkinson and Rechichi have already been named in the Beijing Olympic squad and have recently been competing in Europe to fine tune their preparations.
WAIS equestrian athlete Clayton Fredericks enjoyed a good result at the Badminton Horse Trials in England over the weekend.
Fredericks was riding on his second ranked horse, abor but still managed to finish in the top ten in the dressage competition. He is expected to feature on his top ranked horse, Ben Along Time in a separate event in the UK later this month.
The Beijing Olympic equestrian events will be staged in Hong Kong from August 9-21. Both Fredericks and fellow WAIS rider Sonja Johnson will be hoping to book their tickets at this event.
WAIS athlete Lauren Shelley has missed out on the chance to race in the Beijing Olympic marathon after a knee injury severely hampered her preparations for the Hamburg marathon in Germany recently.
Shelley had been looking to post a strong time to force her way into the Australian Olympic team, but a knee injury sustained in training two weeks out from competition left her with a race against time to be fit for the starting gun. Despite winning that race, Shelley could manage only 42nd with the knee causing considerable duress.
WAIS cyclist Josie Tomic and her Flexpoint road team are preparing for the start of a hectic month of cycling. Tomic has joined with the Dutch team for a series of road races over the next four weeks.
Tomic is currently based in Haaren, 45min drive from Eindhoven. Tomic will return to Australia in early June.
