Western Australian sprinter Ben Offereins has today been officially selected by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for the Australian men’s 4x400m track relay team.

Offereins and the three other members of the Australian 4x400m relay team had previously been nominated by Athletics Australia for Olympic section, but AOC ratification was delayed due to the IAAF relay qualifying window closing on July 2.

Under IAAF guidelines, only the top 16 ranked nations qualified for the men’s 4x400m relay at the London Games, and following the deadline, Australia was confirmed with a ranking of 13th position.

Offereins will make his Olympic debut in London, where he will run with John Steffensen, Joel Milburn and Steve Solomon. The group will look to emulate the silver medal winning feat of the 2004 Australian Athens Olympic 4x400m relay team, of which Steffensen was a member.

Ben Offereins’ selection has taken WA’s numbers for the London Games to 45 athletes.
