Three AIS-WAIS athletes have been named on the 14-strong Australian track cycling team for the 2012 London Olympic Games after the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) today formally selected Josie Tomic, Melissa Hoskins and Scott Sunderland.

The trio will make their Olympic debuts in London, with Tomic and Hoskins to compete together in the women’s team pursuit, while Scott Sunderland will form part of the world championship winning men’s team sprint.

Sunderland won gold at this year’s track world championships in Melbourne and will again ride alongside teammates Shane Perkins (VIC) and Matthew Glaetzer (SA) as they look to upset Sir Chris Hoy and the Great Britain team on home soil.

Tomic and Hoskins will be joined by Annette Edmondson (SA) and Amy Cure (TAS) as they also look to go head to head with Great Britain for gold. Australia held the world record for ten minutes at this year’s world championships before Great Britain snatched it back in winning the world title.

Western Australia now has 11 athletes officially selected for London, with today’s track cycling selections joining athletes from slalom canoeing, swimming and flat water kayaking.

The London Olympic track cycling program will run from the 2-7 August at the London Olympic Velodrome.
