Four time Olympian Natalie Cook (pictured) could partner Tara West over the summer

WAIS athlete Tara West has received Australian Volleyball’s highest accolade at the 2010 AVF Annual Dinner in Canberra last weekend.

West was awarded the Australian Volleyball Federation’s Most Outstanding Volleyball Player (female) for the second year in a row after she again starred for the Australian national team and helped WA to a national title.

West has also broadened her horizons in the past 12 months to compete in beach volleyball competitions with encouraging early results. West’s form and reputation has led to an invitation from beach volleyball legend and four-time Olympian and Sydney 2000 gold medallist Natalie Cook.

“I received a phone call from Natalie asking me to play with her in the Coolangatta Gold International Beach Volleyball event to be held next weekend on the Gold Coast,” West explained.

“She has also asked me to play with her in the Australian Beach Tour this summer, pending approval from the AIS.”

“I’m hoping that this works out as it would be such a fantastic opportunity for me,” West said.

Natalie Cook is herself a former Western Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder, and won bronze with fellow WAIS athlete Kerri Pottharst at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
