The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is delighted to announce the appointment of Jon Haines as Chief Operating Officer.

Jon joins WAIS with extensive leadership experience across both elite sport and the corporate sector. His career has included senior roles with the WA Football Commission, the Gold Coast Suns Football Club, and Mineral Resources, where he has developed a strong track record in building teams, driving collaboration, and leading high-performance environments.

As COO, Jon will work across the organisation to foster collaboration and oversee key initiatives, including the newly established Para Unit which aims to strengthen pathways and opportunities for Western Australian para-athletes.

Jon said he is looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to WAIS’s role in supporting WA’s athletes.

“WAIS has an outstanding reputation for developing and supporting athletes across a wide range of sports. I feel privileged to be joining the team and look forward to working with staff, coaches and partners to continue building an environment where athletes can thrive,” Haines said.

WAIS Chair Dr Neale Fong said Jon’s leadership and experience will be invaluable as WAIS continues to support athletes in their pursuit of LA2028 and Brisbane 2032 Games.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jon to WAIS. His diverse experience, coupled with his people-focused approach, will play a critical role in ensuring we continue to deliver for our athletes, coaches, and partners,” Fong said.

WAIS warmly welcomes Jon to the team and looks forward to the impact of his leadership in the years ahead.
