Published On: 7 October 2020

The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) welcomes
the release of the terms of reference by the Australian Human Rights Commission
for the independent review of gymnastics in Australia.

The Commission is undertaking the review of the sport at
the request of Gymnastics Australia, with the support of the AIS, Sport
Integrity Australia and the National Institute Network, of which WAIS is a
member.

The Review will build an understanding of the sport’s
culture and identify systemic issues impacting upon athlete experience and barriers
to reporting misconduct to inform future, better practice to ensure safety and
inclusivity.

WAIS is committed to continual improvement of its own policy
and processes supporting safe and ethical practice. WAIS is therefore encouraging
former and current athletes and their families, coaches, officials and administrators,
at all levels of the sport to contribute to the Review where appropriate, by
making a written submission and or participating in a focus group or interview.

The terms of reference can be
read hereand more information can be found on the Australian Human Rights Commission website.

The AIS Mental Health Referral Network (MHRN) is available for both AIS and
NIN alumni
and current high performance athletes, coaches and staff and their families, if
they wish to seek any additional support throughout this process. Contact
