Water Polo Boys Get Australia Off to Good Start

Western Australian Institute of Sport water polo athletes Tim Neesham, Jamie Beadsworth and James Stanton have all played roles in Australia’s 12-8 victory over Greece in the Sharks first match at the Ying Dong Natatorium.

The Sharks opening half was a frantic affair with the scoreboard working overtime to keep up. At the main break the Aussies were up 9-8 before a solid defensive effort in the second half saw them keep the Greeks scoreless while adding a further three goals of their own.

Neesham was the only WAIS player to get on the scoresheet, with the triple Olympian scoring one goal from his two attempts. Goalkeeper Stanton saved five of the Greek’s 13 shots in a solid effort in the net.

The Sharks next match is against Spain on Tuesday.
