West Aussies in London day 6!

Published On: 2 August 2012

One thing I love about the games is how it brings the world together. For one month, every four years, people from every country come together to showcase their best athletes.

When you’re an athlete, it’s even better. You are walking around in a secure village filled with athletes and coaches and no matter who you are, how many medals you’ve won or how many sponsors you have, if you are wearing the same color tracksuit, you are a team.

I remember in Beijing being amongst famous athletes that I only ever get to see on the TV. But whether they knew me or not, we would say ‘hey’ or do the symbolic chin raising head movement of acknowledgment whenever we walked passed each other.  It was a really cool sense of pride in the green and gold Australian tracksuits that I’ll never forget.

The Men’s hockey team thrashed Spain 5-0 putting them right on course for their hunt for Gold. Team sports like Hockey are a long endeavor for Gold in the games as they start on day one and play the medal game either on the last or second last day of the games.

Sally Foster came fourth in her 200m Breaststroke heat putting her into the finals, which will be on the 2nd so keep your eye out.

The Stingers… well let’s just say they STUNG Great Britain 16-3. Our women’s water polo team, look fantastic and just like our men’s Hockey, they are off to a great start in these games.

Our very own Taylor Worth had a huge day at Lord’s, beating the no# one ranked Brady Ellison from the USA. Worth will further his medal hunt on Friday as he goes head to head against China’s Dai Xiaoxiang. Keep it Up Taylor!!

On August second watch out for our following W.A.I.S athletes in Action.

The men’s water polo team will be first up to take on Spain in the prelims group A. Women’s Hockey will take on USA which will be a good match to watch since the US never fail to bring the heat when it comes to sports. And don’t forget Foster in her finals swim in the 200m Breaststroke.

Joining the action will be WAIS athlete Scott Sunderland in the cycling team sprint.

GO WAIS!!!
