In partnership with AusCycling, WAIS facilitates an endurance focused daily training environment for emerging and developing track endurance, road, and cross-country mountain bike athletes. The WAIS Cycling program will utilise WA’s cycling infrastructure, primarily the Perth SpeedDome, operated by VenuesWest in addition to the WAIS High Performance Service Centre.
WA based nationally categorised athletes in acceleration and action disciplines (Track Sprint, BMX racing, BMX freestyle) and Olympic/Paralympic Fast Track program will be supported through individual athlete scholarships.
WAIS offers the opportunity for athletes to gain scholarships by achieving the selection criteria outlined in the Selection Guidelines, Criteria and Process.
Support will be prioritised to athletes within 2028 medal target Olympic and Paralympic classes and Olympic/Paralympic Pathway classes as outlined in the AusCycling High Performance Strategy.
WAIS scholarship athletes have access to coaching (or financial support for coaching) and the Performance Enhancement Team covering strength and conditioning, sport science and sports medicine services – physiology, sports nutrition, performance psychology, and physiotherapy, as well as support outside of sport through athlete wellbeing and engagement.
