19 year-old Declan Tingay won a bronze medal as a member of the Australian U20 10km squad at the recent IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in China.
The Australian trio of Tingay, Kyle Swan and Mitchell Baker collectively combined for the third fastest aggregate, earning themselves a spot on the teams competition podium.
Tingay put himself in the lead pack at the start of competition, with the front pack of 12 boasting three Chinese athletes.
The host nation athletes stepped up the pace at the 7km mark in a move that saw Yao Zhang ultimately set up his individual win and a team title for China.
Having stayed in second chase bunch, Tingay received a "pitstop” penalty for a second warning – which saw him given a one minute time deduction.
Despite the setback, Tingay was still good enough to cross home in 14th position overall in a time of 42:01mins which was a new personal best for the Willetton resident.
